Economic Development
Serving as the Solano County seat is the City of Fairfield, which consistently experiences a boom in population as more people depart the Bay Area hustle and bustle for a more hometown atmosphere and affordable housing.
Retail, office, and industrial development has kept up with the increasing population trends to give newcomers easy access to retail space, and office and industrial employment opportunities to cut down on commute times.
Fairfield has averaged over 350,000 square feet of new industrial development and 260,000 square feet of commercial and office development for the past 20 years. An additional 5.4 million square feet of retail, office, and industrial development has been planned since 1995, with those numbers expected to increase as the population continues to grow.
Suisun City is labeled as one of Northern California’s fastest growing areas, largely due to its wealth of affordable housing and the low costs of rental space. As the only waterfront community in Solano County, Suisun City attracts a wealth of individuals from around the state who enjoy its temperate climate and one of the lowest crime rates in California.
Due to Suisun’s close proximity to Highway 12, which is quickly becoming a bastion for growth along the Interstate 80 corridor, Suisun City can expect new business projects in the next 10 years that will hire anywhere between 700 to 800 workers. Additionally so, as the population of Suisun grows, the need to provide adequate retail, office, and industrial space will provide excellent opportunities for development.
Economic Growth
Fairfield-Suisun is rapidly developing into a bustling business community, experiencing consistent growth for the last ten years. Indeed, according to the Association of Bay Area Governments, Fairfield-Suisun—as well as all of Solano County—can expect a 61 percent increase in jobs, a 136 percent increase in population, and a 40 percent increase in households well into the next decade.
