History

Fairfield

Fairfield began when A.A. Ritchie, a land speculator, purchased 30 square miles of the Suisun Valley from General Mariano Vallejo. Ritchie then sold one-third of his interest in the land to Captain Waterman, who named the town Fairfield after his hometown in Connecticut.

Fairfield was incorporated into a city in 1903 with a population of 300. After the construction of Travis Air Force Base in 1942, the city grew rapidly and now boasts a population of over 100,000 people.

In addition to being the home of the Jelly Belly Candy Company and the Anheuser-Busch Budweiser Brewing Factory, Fairfield is also the Solano County seat and home to a vibrant community of both local employees as well as Bay Area and Central Valley workers who use Fairfield’s easy access to Interstate 80 to commute to Sacramento and San Francisco.

Fairfield is a growing community ripe with opportunities to service the business needs of today’s modern world. Its strategic location—halfway between Sacramento and San Francisco—make Fairfield the ideal location to do business. Local, regional, and national employers take advantage of Fairfield’s well-trained labor force and its proximity to local universities and training centers in order to employ a highly educated workforce.

The city of Fairfield is governed by five elected City Council Members, including an elected Mayor.

Fairfield’s Mayor is the Honorable Harry Price.
